SMEs and other companies increasingly dependant on mobile
networks will be pleased with a ruling by the Competition
Commission (CC) on mobile phone charges.
The CC has reduced further the charges that rival mobile
operators can charge each other for receiving calls from mobile
users not on their networks.
BT complained to the CC that earlier reduced charges proposed by
regulator Ofcom weren't enough.
The CC agreed, and says charges for connecting to the O2,
Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone networks should be reduced to 4p per
minute by 2010/11. Ofcom had decided that they should fall to 5.1p
per minute by 2010/11.
The CC has also determined that the charge for connecting to the
3 network should be reduced to 4.4p per minute by 2010/11. That is
1.5p lower than Ofcom's original decision.
The reductions are expected to be passed onto customers.
