More than half of workers get drunk at work, and a third look at
porn during work time. Drunken staff are causing problems for
employees through inappropriate use of technology.
Research, from e-mail security firm Proofpoint, said that 56% of
office workers admitted to returning to work drunk after a
lunchtime beverage.
Some tipsy workers have made the mistake of hitting the
reply-all button on their e-mail, and have sent the entire company,
including senior executives, inappropriate responses to e-mails. A
quarter of respondents said they have e-mailed a colleague with
saucy comments intended for a lover.
The survey also found that 33% of staff admit to having viewed
pornography on their computer in the office.
"A real crossover in the digital realm between personal and
professional lives means staff are increasingly relaxed in their
use of workplace e-mail and internet. Working longer hours and
therefore using these technologies more to stay in touch with
friends and family can only heighten the risk," said David Stanley,
UK managing director at Proofpoint.
