Yahoo's new CEO says the search portal will be better
served by being kept whole rather than sold off in chunks to
appease shareholders.
After reporting a fourth-quarter loss, Carol Bartz
said, "This is a fantastic internet property, and it doesn't
deserve everybody trying to pick it and pull it apart.
"This is not a company that needs to be pulled apart and left
for the chickens."
Microsoft is still said to be interested in acquiring Yahoo's
search business, after a
proposed acquisition of the whole company fell through last
year.
In a conference call after the results, Bartz wouldn't rule out
such a transaction nor declare any support for it.
She said the long-term interests of the company had to be
measured against potential short-term shareholder value.
