Olympics organisers will use Airwave radio at the London 2012
Games for general communications.
The London Olympics is the first to have its own private radio
services. It will use the same Tetra technology as the emergency
services use, but it will be on a separate network.
The London Olympics Games Organising Committee will decide which
staff have access to the network, which, it says, will improve
efficiency and safety.
London 2012 chairman Sebastien Coe said, "Secure communication
between venues and personnel at games time will be critical to our
success."
The network will provide radio services to all London venues and
some others in the UK.
Work on the new infrastructure has already started and Airwave
says it will be ready in April 2011, in time for the test events,
which start later in the year.
