Autonomy has announced record annual results, with sales up
47%.
Autonomy's software allows systems to form conceptual and
contextual understanding of any piece of electronic data, including
unstructured information such as e-mail, voice or video data.
The firm
posted full-year sales of $503m and earnings per share up 81% when
compared to 2007.
Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy, said, "The fundamental driver for
Autonomy is the explosion of unstructured information. Whilst this
switch to unstructured information may take 10 to 15 years, in
2008, we saw two particular aspects of this bigger picture come to
the fore."
He said, "The first and most important of these, which affects
all industry sectors, are regulatory changes, such as the
amendments to the US Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
"The second of these effects was the increase in regulation and
litigation in the financial markets as a result of recent turmoil.
As regulators across the world have realised that most of their
issues are found in unstructured information, we saw a raft of new
regulations come in during 2008."
Other regulations that will help Autonomy's business will come
into force over the next two years, said Lynch.
