Vodafone has successfully trialled new mobile broadband
technology that delivers data access speeds of up to 16mbps - more
than twice the maximum of current industry mobile broadband
services.
The extra bandwidth will be useful for companies of all sizes
who need to support data heavy applications like videos,
presentations and large databases over mobile networks in the
field.
The new, faster HSPA+ technology will be further tested by
Vodafone later this year, and is expected to reach peak speeds of
21mbps.
“Successfully demonstrating a live HSPA+ high speed connection
has been a key milestone in continuing to build confidence in this
new technology,” said Andy MacLeod, global networks director of
Vodafone.
“The results show that HSPA+ technology is well placed to
further enhance our customers’ mobile broadband experience through
the evolution of our existing 3G networks,” he said.
Vodafone worked in association with Ericsson and Qualcomm on
the tests.
So far, Vodafone hasn't outlined a commercial roll-out roadmap
for the faster mobile broadband technology, but the company is
traditionally ahead of the game when it comes to delivering wider
coverage and faster speeds in the mobile broadband market.
