IBM has moved its Lotus Notes groupware platform into the
internet cloud
with a service called LotusLive, designed to support
collaboration between businesses.
IBM said the product could help companies work smarter by making
it easy for them to connect and work together, without spending
time and money installing groupware infrastructure.
One of the first companies to sign up is Skype. Through the
planned integration, users will be able to use Skype to start VoIP
calls via the LotusLive collaborative services. Future
possibilities include the ability to import Skype contact
information into IBM cloud services to enhance online
collaboration, Skype said.
Social networking site
LinkedIn has also signed up, to enable users to search
LinkedIn's public professional network and then collaborate with
them using LotusLive services.
Software as a service CRM, Salesforce.com, will integrate with
LotusLive, to support customer and opportunity management.
John de Giorgio CEO of Notes specialist Integra4Notes, is
blogging
from Lotusphere this week.
