Oracle is said to be making almost 10% of its worldwide staff of 84,000 redundant.

The unconfirmed reports say jobs are going worldwide, with job losses reported by Oracle staff across its businesses and product sectors.

Both consultants and software engineers are among the casualties, and Oracle-acquired firms BEA Systems and Hyperion are said to be heavily affected.

The first reports of the losses indicated that Oracle was pushing through 8,000 job cuts, although Oracle has not so far confirmed any numbers.
