Toshiba
has
been promoting its green credentials with a variety of new
technologies at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las
Vegas.
Its Super Charge Battery - SCiB - is a rechargeable battery said
to offer "excellent safety, long-life and rapid charging".
Prototypes of notebook PCs integrating a SCiB point the way to
improved battery life said Toshiba. The SCiB can be recharged 6,000
times with a target recharge time of 90% in just 10 minutes.
The commercial application of SCiB in an electric bike is on
display.
In addition, advances in cutting energy consumption in TVs are
being showcased by new LCD TVs, including future models integrating
a new panel that Toshiba has used to cut power consumption by 26% -
equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by 214g a day.
New EPEAT computers - the Portégé A600, Portégé R600, Portégé
M750 - are also being shown. They do not contain potentially
harmful cadmium, lead or mercury, and they offer energy-efficient
operation, and a design for recycling and green procurement, said
Toshiba.
Energy-saving light-emitting diodes (LED) are also on show. They
directly convert electrical energy into optical energy. The E-CORE
100 and E-CORE 60 LED downlight series are lighting up the Toshiba
booth at the show.
They have a long life of 40,000 hours, and consume only
one-seventh of the power of an equivalent mini krypton bulb, said
Toshiba.
