The company would not confirm or comment on the job cuts, which
were reported by the Times. The retailer is expected to have had a
difficult Christmas trading period but no announcements have been
made yet.
The rumours come amid a raft of closures from other retailers.
Yesterday clothes retailer Adams said it will shut 111 stores with
the loss of 850 staff, and Passion for Perfume announced the
closure of 45 branches.
They join a growing list of retailers that have recently closed
or entered administration. Entertainment retailer Zavvi entered
administration after being hit by Woolworths' collapse, whose
wholesale arm supplied Zavvi.
Furniture retailers MFI and Rosebys have both been hit, as well
as homeware shop The Pier, and clothing stores USC and The Officers
Club.
