The IT
skills gap is growing, according to IT staff, and more training
from employers is needed to combat it.
Staff quizzed on the topic for a survey said the skills
shortfall is partly down to the sector lacking enough people. They
also think the IT sector changes rapidly, making it hard to fill
spaces.
Nearly three quarters of respondents said they believe the
skills gap exists, and 70% believe better
training from employers is needed to combat the problem and
make sure IT departments and companies keep up with the sector's
rapid changes.
Just over 44% say outsourcing can cover the shortages. Most
agree the skills gap is not a problem confined to the UK, with 88%
saying it exists in other countries.
Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, which
conducted the survey, said, "The IT sector is a rapidly evolving
one, and it is down to employers to invest in their staff, both via
systems and training, to ensure they stay up-to-speed with the
changes."
