There was a greater dispersion of the workforce this year, with
many more working remotely, says
Citrix.
A survey Citrix conducted among 160 IT decision makers at one of
its remote working and app delivery management events found that
43% had seen wider employee distribution this year.
In addition, 58% expected a further employee dispersion increase
in 2009.
The biggest driver for the increasingly dispersed workforce was
cited as "employee demand", at 32%.
"It seems employees are seeking to reduce travel by working from
home," said James Stevenson, area vice-president for UK, Ireland
and South Africa at Citrix.
"However, with more and more people
working away from the office, the pressure is on IT managers to
deliver an optimised service to all on the network, no matter where
they reside."
Stevenson said, "Historically, working away from the office is
likened to being treated as a second class citizen - slow
application delivery, little IT support and even total application
failure. This cannot be the case in 2009."
