This year'sBCS
IT Industry Awardsceremony saw a special
presentation of a BCS Lifetime Achievement Award to David Morriss.
This is only the third time the award has been
presented.
Morriss, former IBM UK holdings director, BCS president and
master of the Information Technologists' Company, was recognised
for his lifetime commitment to the profession. A fellow of the BCS,
Morriss worked in the IT industry from 1966 until his retirement
from IBM in 1997. Since retiring he has undertaken several public
appointments.
Reflecting on the evening, BCS president Alan Pollard said, "The
BCS IT Industry Awards have a very important role in promoting
excellence in the profession. The range of individuals, projects,
organisations and companies that have collected awards this year
prove yet again that IT is at the heart of almost everything in
society and daily life, from leisure activities and healthcare to
business and education."
The awards are an integral part of the BCS professionalism
initiative. Although the format has changed over the years, the
enduring aim is to promote professionalism and reward
excellence.
The awards are regarded as the hallmark of success among
practitioners across industry, recognising, promoting and
acclaiming excellence, professionalism, innovation and the
outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups
contribute.
