Cisco has called on
president-elect Barack Obama's incoming administration to deliver a
national broadband strategy for the US.
Obama's main priority takes office might not be faster online
gaming, but Cisco's call is at least consistent when it comes to
business. Cisco also cites
research from Oxford University to back its call.
"It's critical that government and industry work together to
create a 21st century information infrastructure that ensures US
economic and social growth in the future," said Jeff Campbell,
senior director of technology and trade policy for Cisco.
"Without high-quality, reliable and accessible broadband that
reaches every part of our nation, we will miss out on robust
opportunities of economic growth, job creation, collaboration and
social benefits.
"Implementing a national broadband strategy must be a priority
for the new administration and the 111th Congress," said
Campbell.
Previous similar calls by Cisco fell on deaf ears, with both the
Clinton and Bush administrations finding more pressing matters to
occupy them.
