IBM will try to tempt firms with a "Microsoft-free" virtual
desktop package to save them money,
reports
the Wall Street Journal.
IBM says it has created a complete suite of applications that
run on a backroom server and which don't require Microsoft
software.
The package, which is available immediately, uses the Linux
operating system and a set of IBM office applications that run on
thin client PCs.
The cost of the Virtual Linux Desktop will be well under the
equivalent cost of running a PC with the Windows Vista OS and
Office productivity suite, said IBM.
