Women on the IT service desk earn 4.5% less on average than the
men, according to a survey from the Service Desk Institute
(SDI).
Howard Kendall, chairman of the SDI said, "We have always had a
reasonable number of woman working on the service desk compared to
other areas of IT. However, there seems to be the perception that
female staff lack the same technical skills as their male
counterparts. This is a perception it is not the case in
reality."
The survey of 257 IT Service Desk Managers, IT Service Desk Team
Leaders and Service Desk Analysts found that men were more likely
to demand a pay increase compared to women.
More female ITSM professionals (49%) than male said they were
satisfied with their salary (46%).
