The FiReControl project, which will link the IT systemsof fire
control rooms across the UK is running nine months late, the
government admitted today.
Sadiq Khan, parliamentary under secretary of state at the
Department of Communities and Local Government,
told the House of Commons today that the first phase of the
project would be delivered nine months late.
The overall project is currently running five months behind
schedule.
Khan said, "FiReControl is a complex and demanding project and
as such is subject to rigorous ongoing review. Since I took up my
post as Fire Minister a thorough review of all aspects of the
FiReControl project has been completed, and a number of
difficulties with the ICT and other dimensions of the project were
identified. These issues will result in some delay."
The first phase of the project, which will see the first three
regional control centres go live in the North East, East Midlands
and South West, will now be delivered in summer 2010. The full
system is expected to be in place by spring 2012.
Khan also announced publication of the FiReControl business case
and said he is "seeking views" on the document during a period of
consultation.
The project will see a

stand-alone IT systems.
