Four
government departments saw big increases in their IT spending
in the 2007/08 financial year.
The departments for transport, children, culture and health
spent a total of £59.4m on IT upgrades during 2007/08. This
compared with £42.2m in 2006-07.
The figures were drawn from parliamentary written questions put
down by Conservative MP Michael Ancram.
The Department for Transport increased spending by 48% to £43.9m
in 2007-08, and the Department for Children, Schools and Families
increased spending by 28% to £9.2m.
The Department of Health's increase was 30% to £4.5m, and the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport increased its spending by a
more modest 4% to £1.9m.
Other government departments were also asked to provide figures
by Ancram, but they were either unable to do so or claimed the cost
of doing so was "disproportionate".
