The British campus of
a US university has
deployed a
next-generation IP network to cope with growing numbers of
students.
Harlaxton
College, the British campus of the University of Evansville in
Indiana, is based at the Grade 1-listed Harlaxton Manor in
Lincolnshire.
Harlaxton College wanted to upgrade its telephony network and
needed a system that was scalable to meet the growing number of
students and visitors.
It selected ntl:Telewest Business for its next generation
network capabilities and experience in the education sector.
Ian Welsh, vice-principal for business and technology at
Harlaxton, said: "We pride ourselves on the technology we use at
the college and are always looking at ways to improve our ICT
systems.
"The dedicated support and the can-do attitude from the
ntl:Telewest Business team really demonstrated their expertise. The
team answered all our technical questions honestly and saw through
the challenges to provide us with a workable solution," added Ian
Welsh.
The college will own the IP telephony equipment. The servicing
will be managed by ntl:Telewest Business to ensure the day-to-day
running of the system, as part of a three- to five-year
contract.
Ntl:Telewest Business has also upgraded the college's internet
connection and installed the technology to boost bandwidth speeds
when needed.
Harlaxton college takes over 300 students each academic year
from the US and over 1,000 people annually attend summer schools,
short courses and conferences at the college.
