A National Skills Academy for IT will be launched next year to
ensure that the UK has the right skills to help it grow.
The academy, announced today, will train and retrain recruits
with employers contributing to course development.
As well as IT the other
skills academies launched were for enterprise, power and social
care.
There are more than a million
IT professionals in the UK, with 141,000 recruits needed every
year, according to e-skills UK.
Karen Price, chief executive of e-skills UK, said, "It offers a
unique opportunity for employers to take collective responsibility
for the skills and accreditation of the IT workforce, with
innovative development programmers and qualifications that are
valued by the sector."
Skills secretary John Denham said the academies make sure that
the workforce is trained to meet the needs of industry.
"Skills academies put employers in the driving seat to shape
training for their industries, building the world-beating workforce
that will improve productivity and competitiveness across the
country."
