"Father of the internet" Vint Cerf has
called
on IT professionals in the UK to volunteer.
He recorded a video for
iT4Communities asking people with IT skills to help at
charities in need of their expertise.
Google's vice-president and chief internet evangelist is famous
for co-designing the basic architecture of the internet with Robert
Kahn.
"It is very important for the charities of the world, and
especially here in the UK, to have access to information technology
assistance from experts like yourselves," he said.
"Not all of them have that capability, and in some sense they
live on the wrong side of the digital divide. You have an
opportunity to help."
iT4Communities matches
IT volunteers with charities who need their help. John Davies,
iT4Communities programme manager, said, "Vint's message proves just
how far reaching and important the work of iT4Communities and its
volunteers is. More IT professionals on board means more and more
charities will get the IT help they badly need to serve their front
line."
