Google co-founder Sergey Brin has revealed
he could
develop Parkinson's disease.
Brin has started a blog and writes he has taken genetic tests
for the condition after his mother developed Parkinson's.
The tests showed Brin has a mutated gene named G2019S, which
makes it more likely he will suffer from Parkinson's in later
life.
"Early studies tend to have small samples with various selection
biases. Nonetheless it is clear that I have a markedly higher
chance of developing Parkinson's in my lifetime than the average
person," Brin writes.
He says the chance of him suffering the condition could be
between 20% and 80% greater than the average person.
Brin said he would be taking regular exercise to decrease the
chance of developing the condition. He added that he would be
funding research into the disease.
