IT service provider Fujitsu Services will not pay bonuses to its
staff this year as it tightens its belt following its
exit from the NHS IT project.
Connecting for Health, which manages the NHS National Project
for IT (NPfIT), terminated Fujitsu's £1.1bn contract in May,
following the collapse of re-negotiations. Fujitsu was the local
service provider for trusts in the south of England.
A spokesman confirmed that no bonuses would be paid to Fujitsu
Services staff this year. "This is due to the fact that we have
withdrawn from the NHS project and there have been a lot of costs
involved," he said.
He said Fujitsu had lost money on the contract and the bonus
cuts were a sensible move. "A lot of work was done that we have not
been paid for and we have to be judicious," added the
spokesman.
Fujitsu has already announced that up to
700 IT jobs are at risk following the termination of Fujitsu's
contract .
The company began a 90-day consultation process on the future of
its employees working on the NHS contract in June.
