IT professionals say interesting and challenging work is the main thing they look for when job hunting.

A poll of nearly 5,000 IT professionals showed IT workers regard the culture of a company as a deciding factor in taking a job. Ninety one per cent want challenging and interesting work and 70% want a good quality working environment.

Job security is less important, according to the poll. Just 62% said security is an important factor in taking a job, compared to 75% who want strong working relationships with colleagues.

The importance of having sufficient resources was also rated highly among IT workers, with 79% saying they want the right tools to enable them to do a good job.

The poll was commissioned by recruitment firm Computer People.
