Home Assistance UK is using hosteddisaster recoveryto protect databases
containing the details of all its customers in a datacentre backed
up by power from a hydrogen fuel-cell.
The Centrica Group company has also created a replica IT and
communications infrastructure.
The firm has backed up its SQL, Sage and Exchange databases and
ICT infrastructure at
Comtec Enterprises' datacentre.
The datacentre contains APC equipment to house servers and uses
a
hydrogen fuel-cell to generate back-up power. This reduces the
firm's carbon footprint because heat and water are the only waste
products. The fuel-cell starts working as soon as there is a power
outage, unlike a diesel generator, which can take time to fire
up.
Tony Vassiliou, IT manager at Home Assistance, said the company
relied on the accuracy of its business information. "By securing
our Sage, SQL and Exchange databases holding all our customer,
broker and financial information we are entrusting Comtec to help
secure a vital business asset," he said.
In the event of a disaster, Comtec provides Home Assistance with
alternative premises, to which all business-critical applications
from the datacentre will be redirected.
