Senior executives are increasingly using
social networking sites to climb the career ladder, according
to a report from recruitment firm Harvey Nash.
A survey of 500 senior executives shows professional
social networking sites are set to rival executive
job boards as a way of finding new career opportunities.
Some 90% of respondents said they were registered on sites such
as
LinkedIn, compared with just 50% posting their CV on a job
board.
Most executives see "building a personal brand" as important to
their career and more than two-thirds (68%) say social and
professional networking sites are an important part of this.
Carol Rosati, director at Harvey Nash, said, "We are starting to
see a shift in the way senior executives develop their careers.
"Although online networking does not replace human interaction,
it does provide candidates with an additional set of resources to
create and maintain a personal brand and complement the profile
they build through 'real world' networking."
