Big criminal justice IT projects should be curbed

Large IT projects have stifled information recording and sharing in the criminal justice system.

The Review of Criminality Information report says big IT projects aren't always the best way to improve the recording and sharing of information.

The Review of Criminality Information report says all IT projects on information on criminals should go through an assessment process. This should make the most of existing systems.

The report found many previous projects - such as Libra, Impact and C-Nomis - had been hampered by delays, funding problems and cost overruns.
