The
Highways Agency has launched a programme to improve the way it
uses information and data.
The Road Information Framework, as it is known, draws data from
disparate sources and shares it across the Department of Transport,
Highways Agency and Local Highways Authority.
It aims to collect raw data on journey times and congestion and
turn it into useful information.
The agency hopes to assess the success of new initiatives with
the programme. It wants to see whether new projects, such as
allowing the use of the hard shoulder during busy periods, reduce
journey times.
It is using
business intelligence software by Microstrategy to analyse
data.
