Dell has been hit with a class action lawsuit by 5,000 of its US call centre workers.

The workers allege that the company has underpaid them. The lawsuit was originally filed by two employees in February 2007, and since then the others have joined in to take the company to task over its hours and payment rules.

The lawsuit claims the workers are owed at least a total of £2.5m.

The lawsuit alleges that Dell has been in violation of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, claiming Dell did not maintain accurate payroll records and denied wages and overtime pay to call centre staff as a result.

Dell denies the claims and is defending the action.
