Queues began forming early this morning to get their hands
on Apple's
new iPhone 3G, which ships in the UK today. But with limited
stock, few customers are likely to get their hands on one.
There was already a queue of about 40 people outside the O2
store in Croydon High Street at 8am. The hype surrounding the UK
availability of the new phone caused O2's website to become overloaded on Monday as
customers tried to register to be among the first to own one. As a
result, customers desperate to get their hands on the device have
gone directly to O2's shops.
Stuart Lauchlan, a Brighton-based journalist, said, "I
preregistered for the upgrade but when I went to the O2 site on
Monday, I couldn't order anything. O2 told me I could try going to
one of its stores, but each shop would only have about 12 in
stock."
