Most UK companies have poor
green
credentials, according to a survey of 8,000 IT directors and
business decision makers across Europe.
The Brocade survey found that 60% of UK respondents rated their
employers' green credentials negatively, whereas 40% across Europe
as a whole felt the same.
Less than 40% of the UK directors questioned were bothered about
the
carbon footprint of their employer, and only 16% seek to buy
more environmentally friendly products.
"It is worrying to see the lack of concern over green
credentials, considering the amount of industry pressure and media
attention that has been given to this subject," said Ulrich
Plechschmidt,
Brocade
vice-president EMEA. "It is a concern that people have energy
worries and are not taking aggressive steps to buy more efficient,
environmentally friendly products. This is one of the simplest
steps that companies can take to not only reduce their carbon
footprint, but also reduce costs."
More positively, 66% are beginning to look at ways of reducing
energy output.
"There are technologies available that have been specifically
engineered to deliver significant energy savings, and businesses
should seek these out wherever possible. Putting some effort into
researching these solutions now will reap huge rewards in the long
term," said Plechschmidt.
