IT industry leaders, including the global CEOs of Canon and
McAfee, will be off to Windsor Castle tomorrow evening for the
Prince's Trust technology leadership group gala dinner with
Prince Charles.
The group, which provides support for disadvantaged young people
and guidance to help them start their own businesses, will be
celebrating a milestone in its fundraising effort, which has raised
£5m since 2002.
Industry veteran Richard Holway, chairman of the Prince's Trust
technology leadership group, said, "Most of the people we help have
just come out of prison or are on drugs. We help to give them
confidence."
The group provides mentoring and guidance in helping people set
up technology companies. Holway said one young offender was given a
chance to build a web page on the Boots website and now runs a
local web design company.
Government chief information officer John Suffork recently
joined the Prince's Trust technology leadership group. Over 50
companies are patrons including Atos Origin, Accenture, CSC, EDS,
Fujitsu, Microsoft and Oracle.
