From 1 July, T-Mobile will be thefirst operator to deploy HSUPA technology on a nationwide
basis- meaning users across the UK will be
able to upload documents, photos and videos at speeds of up to
1.4mbps, an improvement of up to fivefold on the current
standard.
T-Mobile has also upgraded its HSDPA-enabled 3G network within
Greater London to deliver maximum speeds of 4.5mbps.
"Mobile Broadband has come of age. Today, 25% of new contract
customers are signing up and we expect to quadruple our user base
in 2008. We knew mobile broadband would burst on the scene," said
T-Mobile UK Chief Executive Jim Hyde.
T-Mobile has also upgraded the underlying download capability of
the HSDPA-enabled 3G network to 7.2mbps, initially within the M25
but rolling out to other major cities during the second half of
2008. This will deliver
maximum mobile broadband speeds of up to 4.5mbps in enabled
areas.
