Xerox Research seeks to improve multilingual access

TheXerox Research Centre Europe (XRCE)is co-ordinating a project funded by theEuropean Unionthat will improve the waymultilingual content can be accessed.

The centre, based in Grenoble, France, is developing technology that can make it easier to access, understand and navigate multilingual textual content in digital libraries and online public access catalogues (OPACs).

The European Union-backed CACAO (Cross language Access to Catalogues And Online libraries) is a consortium which comprises European academic and industrial research institutions as well as libraries. It is sponsoring the XRCE's work.

Monica Beltrametti, vice president and director of XRCE, said, "We are glad that CACAO gives us the opportunity to apply some of our Smarter Document Management SM technologies to support Europe's knowledge-based economy."
