Hewlett-Packard is trying to
migrate its identity management customers to
Novell identity and security management
products.
As part of an agreement between the companies, HP and Novell will
jointly offer migration services. HP will resell Novell identity
and security management solutions and Novell will license HP
Identity Center technology.
Earlier this year, HP announced "it will focus its investment in
identity management products on existing customers" rather than
selling the products to new customers.
HP said of the new migration plan, "To ensure that they continue to
have access to exemplary identity management solutions, existing HP
customers can take advantage of this programme and migrate to
Novell's industry-leading offerings. Customers who choose not to
migrate will continue to be supported by HP."
"HP and Novell have clarified a path forward for HP Identity Center
customers who have invested in critical identity management
infrastructure," said Gerry Gebel, an analyst at Burton Group. "The
agreement between Novell and HP is a positive outcome for both
vendors as they partner to address technology and services
requirements of enterprises in an increasingly competitive
industry."
While it may be a good solution for the vendors, some customers may
not be satisfied with the deal on the table for their critical
identity infrastructure.
Novell's comprehensive identity and security management products
are designed to reduce the risk of identity and data theft,
streamline IT administration, enforce business policies and prove
compliance.
A licence credit for current HP Identity Center customers wanting
to migrate to Novell products will operate for the first 12
months.
