Sainsbury's has promoted IT director Angela Morrison to its operational board.

Morrison joins an expanded operational board along with three others from other areas of the business. The operational board will now consist of 12 directors.

Sanisbury's said the expansion would "strengthen the leadership team and provide the appropriate structure to steer the company through its next period of development".

The changes will be effective from 15 June. Morrison, currently director of information services, will become IT and change director.

Morrison will report to Sainsbury's CFO, Darren Shapland, who sits on both the operational board and the main Sainsbury's PLC board.

Morrison joined Sainsbury's from Asda/Walmart in March 2005 as IT director.
