MySpace has launched the Data Availability initiative in
partnership with Yahoo, eBay, Photobucket and Twitter.
The initiative will allow the global MySpace community to share
its public profile data on websites of their choice.
The announcement throws open the doors to traditionally closed
networks, by putting users in the driver's seat for their data and
web identity, said MySpace.
The launch of the Data Availability initiative marks the first
time that a social website has enabled its community to dynamically
share public profile information with other sites.
"The walls around the garden are coming down - the
implementation of Data Availability injects a new layer of social
activity and creates a more dynamic internet," said Chris DeWolfe,
CEO of MySpace.
"We, alongside our Data Availability launch partners, are
pioneering a new way for the global community to integrate their
social experiences web-wide," said DeWolfe.
The move will allow, for instance, MySpace users to incorporate
parts of their profile within their eBay trading account.
Instant messaging providers, such as AOL and Yahoo, have
previously integrated their messaging networks with other
providers, to allow their users to send instant messages to users
on other networks.
