Shetland Islands Council will deploy a £250,000
centraliseddisaster recoveryand
enterpriseback-up systemto reduce costs and
guarantee access toonline servicesfor its
citizens.
The technology, from
Esteem Systems, is designed to keep council services up and
running. For example, it will ensure staff have access to vital
information immediately and citizens can use the council's 24-hour
secure internet payment service.
Based on Sun Microsystems' and Symantec Netbackup's technology,
it will modernise the council's infrastructure and continually
provide electronic services for Shetland Islands citizens.
The infrastructure also provides centralised management and a
manual failover process to support the automated disaster recovery
system at the back-up facility, which takes over in the event of a
failure at the primary data site.
"We are continually working to provide the best services to our
citizens and we need to have the best systems in place for us to do
this," said Tim Bentley, ICT security and operation manager at
Shetland Islands Council.
"Esteem understood our organisation's very specific needs and we
are working together to look at options for a full business
continuity operation in the future," said Bentley.
