Dell plans to lay off workers in Ireland as part of its
£1.5bn global cost-cutting plan.
The cuts will affect employees at Dell's two bases in Ireland
and follows
an earlier announcement from Dell earlier this month over plans
to close a plant in Austin, Texas.
The lay offs are part of
a global plan to save £1.5bn globally.
"Recent statements from Michael Dell, our chairman and CEO, as
well as Don Carty, our CFO, made it clear that there is more work
to do on cost to restore our competitiveness so that we can deliver
long-term profitable growth," Dell said.
Dell said it was still confirming the details of these changes
in consultation with staff and their representatives, but it
anticipates making reductions in staffing levels across EMEA over
the year of between 4% and 5% from a workforce of 17,500. These
changes will vary by country and by department.
