Cheshire's largest social landlord, Weaver Vale Housing
Trust will useCitrix
thin client technologyto deliver office
applications to350 office-based and remote staff, in
a bid to extend hardware shelf life and cut IT maintenance
costs.
Orchard Information Systems (OIS) will install
Citrix XenApp 4.5 (formerly known as Presentation Server 4.5)
and Access Gateway 4.5 as a means of delivering software and
updates. Since old PCs can run new software virtually with Citrix,
OIS promised this will extend the life of the Trust's
computers.
According to Ian Lee, ICT manager at
Weaver Vale Housing Trust the
deal will save time and money and saves on hardware being junked.
"Citrix will make admin of our IT estate much easier. Installing
and updating software only needs to be done once, on the data
centre, and then Citrix delivers it out to all the employees. This
cuts hardware costs, turning old machines into new thin-clients,"
he said
The Housing Trust will secure the system with Citrix Password
Manager and Safeword for Citrix. This will also make management
easier, said supplier Andrew Johnson, ICT consultancy leader at
OIS. "Password Manager and Safeword will work together to solve
password reset problems for the Trust's support staff, saving the
team a lot of time and energy."
"Citrix will give our staff a much better IT experience, and our
IT staff too, as our systems are more secure," said Lee, the
Trust's IT manager.
