Intel has releasedtwo quad-core processorsfor servers
and workstations that run faster than older quad-core ones without
using any more power.
The company said that Quad-Core
Intel Xeon L5400 processors are 25% faster and have a 50%
larger cache size than Intel's previous-generation processors.
The quad-core L5420 and L5410 processors run at 2.5GHz and
2.33GHz respectively, and feature 12Mbytes of on-die cache and
dedicated 1,333MHz front-side buses.
Next quarter, Intel will also release a dual-core low-voltage
processor that will boast a 40-watt rating and clock speed of 3GHz,
with a 6MB cache size and a 1,333 MHz front-side bus.
The new chips "take advantage of Intel's unique 45 nanometer
manufacturing capabilities and reinvented transistor formula that
combine to boost performance and reduce power consumption in data
centers," Intel said in a press release.
