
Dell has said that it has invented an automated
deployment system that can simplifyoperating system migrationsand reduce
costs. The firm also said the new system will mitigate risk for
clients.

Migration Solution is described as an integrated set of
services and tools. According to Dell, it will cut migration costs
by up to 62%. Also, desk-side time and labour costs could be
reduced, with a saving of nearly 90%.
The migration system is only this effective at big corporations,
however, being designed for migrations or hardware deployment of at
least 2,500 systems. It creates economies by simplifying the most
common pain points, which include network utilisation, application
compatibility and end-user downtime.
"As organisations evaluate their Windows Vista migration they
will have to address all stages of the process," said Matt Healey,
research manager for hardware and software support services at IDC.
"Dell has recognised this and developed a services to address these
needs."
The savings come from aggregating the experience of best
practices gleaned from millions of deployments, according to Dell.
The Client Migration Solution includes services to help customers
determine hardware and application compatibility in their client
environment, then to plan, deploy and manage migrated systems. The
system uses Dell's new automated deployment technologies that, the
firm said, will speed the deployment process, reduce post-migration
issues, mitigate risk and eliminate network traffic normally
associated with deployments.
To complement that, Dell said it would give customers tools and
to lend expertise to make technology refreshes a better managed
process, with instructions on how to train support staff and
end-users.
"Customers migrating to Windows Vista have asked Dell to provide
services to simplify the process for them," said Steve Meyer,
vice-president for global services at Dell. "So we combined
planning with processes and tools to streamline the setup. We can
minimise on-site and manual intervention, and simplify the process,
helping customers reclaim time and money."
Dell Client Migration Solution is now available the UK, with
pricing open to negotiation according to what Dell describes as
"customers' unique needs and client environment."
