Theeffective management of desktop PCscan cut the the total cost of ownership by 42%, analyst
Gartner has said.
For a large company, the cost of purchasing a desktop PC may be
about £600, but, kept for four years, the total cost of ownership
could be as much as £3,000 per year, said Gartner.
However, if the company's PCs are locked down and well managed,
the cost per PC per year can be 42% lower at about £1,700.
Gartner said locking down laptops and managing them well could
result in 45% annual cost savings.
"We do not recommend locking down notebooks for workers who work
outside the office most of the time," said Federica Troni, an
analyst at Gartner.
"Such people need to be able to change settings to work from
different locations, but imposing a moderate degree of management
can lower TCO by 24%," Troni said.
