TheBusiness Continuity Institute (BCI)has released a list of practical tips to help UK
organisationsminimise the effects of
flooding.
Topping the list, based on a workshop held by the BCI to review
the effects of last year's flooding on business operations, is for
companies to ensure they have all contact details for members of
staff.
The main lesson that came out of the workshop was that most
staff lists were out of date, and most companies affected by the
floods said communicating with staff off-site was the biggest
problem they faced.
The BCI said the floods exposed the inadequacies of
communication channels used during an emergency between head
offices and branches and with staff off-site.
The BCI found that most companies affected by the floods relied
on mobile phone networks to contact off-site staff, but this had
often led to network failure.
The issue of flooding will be one of the key topics to be
discussed at the
Business Continuity
Expo to be held at ExCel London in the first week of April.
