HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is moving its phone system to a voice over IP platform to cut costs as part of a new £47m telephony contract with Global Crossing.
The contract, which has been signed via government procurement agency OGC Buying Solutions, covers 85,000 HMRC staff and will run to the end of 2011.
As well as saving cash from the new system, HMRC is aiming to take advantage of new working features in the Global Crossing VoIP system.
