TheiPod generationis being outsmarted by
silver surfers when it comes to online security.
A study of 2,500 UK web users by life assistance firm CPP shows
that young people are most at risk from online card fraud.
Although young people are widely percieved as being the most
web-aware, the CPP research found that silver surfers are far more
web savvy when it comes to protecting themselves online.
Although 80% of Brits aged between 45 and 54 simply refuse make
purchases online if there are no markings on a website to prove its
security, only two-thirds (68%) of youngsters aged between 16 and
24 are as cautious, found the research.
The survey showed that one in every 10 Brits have become victims
of online fraud in the UK.
A website where shoppers commonly found themselves a victim of
card fraud was auction site eBay.
More than a third (37%) of people were not sure how they were
defrauded, but a significant number experienced fraudulent payment
from their
PayPal account. eBay owns PayPal.
