Over half of technology leaders in banks will have taken
on board environmentally-friendly business strategies within two
years, according to Gartner.
In its Top Predictions Affecting banking and Investment Services
in 2008 report the analyst firm said that by 2010, more than half
of financial institution CIOs will have adopted and be implementing
"green IT" practices
"Everything marketed to a bank CIO will be touted as having
energy-saving or environmentally-sustainable features, no matter
how small or fleeting," said Gartner.
Gartner said banks must make the right technology decisions or
risk losing control of financial relationships.
Banks such as Barclays and
HSBC in the UK have
recognized the importance of the green agenda at a corporate
level with ongoing projects to reduce IT's carbon
emissions.
