Foreign nationals living in Britain who boycott the
introduction of abiometric identity cardlater this
year, could lose their right to stay under government proposals,
reports The Guardian.
A Home Office consultation paper also says that those who refuse
to make or turn up to an appointment to scan their fingerprints and
facial image will face fines of £250, rising to £1,000 for
persistent refusals.
Those who fail to tell the police if they lose their ID card
will face a fine of £125, says the consultation paper.
The compulsory ID card for foreign nationals comes into effect
from November, and is seen as a potential pilot for the
UK residents' ID cards planned for next year.
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne, told The
Guardian, "This shows the kind of punitive measures that every
British citizen can expect when ID cards are eventually rolled out
nationally."
