Nissan Europe is rolling out asmart card systemto give employees in
34 countries access to IT systems and buildings.
The project was started in 2005 and so far employees in 29
countries, including the UK, have been issued with Nissan ID
cards.
The business benefits of the system included reduced support and
management costs and tighten security across the organisation, said
Graham Orton, Nissan Europe's office technology and security
manager.
The Nissan ID card allows employees to access and exchange
confidential information across the network as well as access
systems shared with alliance partner Renault.
The Nissan combined ID builds on a smart card building access
system introduced by Nissan Japan in 2001. Nissan has used cards
and readers bundled with management, authentication, remote access
and security software from
ActivIdentity.
Orton said Nissan chose the smart employee ID product from
ActivIdentity because it was the only field-tested system that was
able to scale to 100,000 users and allow credentials to be added as
the company's needs changed.
The choice of ActivIdentity also enabled smooth integration with
Nissan Japan's access system which uses the same same software, he
said.
