AstraZenecais upgrading itse-mail systemto support 66,000 global
employees.
AstraZeneca chose to upgrade its reliable but outdated e-mail
infrastructure, and HP Services and Microsoft designed an e-mail
environment based on Microsoft Exchange 2003. HP managed the
migration.
The migration was conducted with both systems running in tandem
in order to minimise disruption. HP Services said it was able to
prepare and synchronise a considerable volume of data in advance,
resulting in an average interruption time of only 15 minutes per
user.
About 2,000 mail boxes were migrated each night, while the
system continued to process one million e-mails a day.
Gary Keogh, global programme manager at AstraZeneca, said, "The
process was smooth with very low call volumes to the help desk and
a low level of business interruption."
